On the Road with Si Mallorca

for many, mallorca is a place of sun, sea and carefree days. but away from the postcard idyll, there are families whose everyday life is characterized by the opposite - a lack of resources for the bare necessities, uncertain living conditions and above all: children who don't have enough to eat, no diapers, no suitable clothing.

si mallorca, founded by anja, has been looking after these people for many years. volunteering, tirelessly and with a commitment that goes far beyond what one might expect. every day, they make sure that donations from the community - baby food, diapers, hygiene articles, clothing - get to where they are really needed: directly to the families. without detours, without bureaucracy.

this time we had the pleasure of accompanying anja on one of her tours - together with dr. sandra norman, pediatrician at the german specialist center (dfz)who joined us on a voluntary basis. our first station was son gotleuone of the poorest districts of mallorca. between blocks of flats, playgrounds and park benches, we met mothers who gratefully accepted every packet of powdered milk and every diaper. we saw children looking curiously into the donation boxes and smiling faces when they found something they could use straight away.

later the path led us to a homeless settlement near the highway - a place you never get to see as a vacationer. families live there in improvised dwellings, surrounded by dust, heat and makeshift constructions. but even here there was a moment of hope when we unloaded parcels together and placed them in the hands of parents who could hardly believe that someone had made it all the way to them.

each of these moments has shown us how important this work is - and how much every donation counts. si mallorca is financed exclusively by donations and every euro goes directly to help on the ground.
